Costa Hawkins repeal and Prop. 13 expansion passing on the same ballot would be perfectly Californian.

Once again, older, whiter, more conservative generation gets to check out from their social obligations to anyone else in this state, this despite the fact they continue to use services that are paid for by everyone else.

Basically the opposite of what should be on the ballot... "Beginning after 20 years of ownership, your Prop 13 assessment shall be raised to market levels over a reasonable period of time (10 years? another 20?)"

I don’t like the CalRealtors proposal, but linking P13 to education funding like that, at this point, is a bit disingenuous. There hasn’t been a direct relationship in CA btwn property taxes and ed funding for quite awhile (except in wealthy basic aid districts).

We should just remove businesses from prop 13 = more $ for schools and reduce all the vacant retail/office space.

This whole mess just makes the fiscal problems worse, let alone the perverse generational inequities. Then, many cities' residents protest RHNA and growth, saying, well, who is to pay for schools, water, infrastructure? Dbl whammy: more opposition -> expensive housing 4 the young

That or we just increase property taxes (again) and make housing problems that much worse for young, working families.

Why not focus on the loopholes that essentially exempt all commercial real estate from reassessment? That's the real problem.
