We could've done better at yesterday's SB827 rally. YIMBYs counterprotested, but shouldn’t have drowned out Chinatown/Mission/Western Addition speakers concerned about displacement. There’s greater anger & distrust from those most impacted by this crisis, & that’s on us.

I'm honestly curious, 827 explicitly says it's not applicable in cases where there's rent or price controlled housing. Are there amendments that you think are appropriate or is this a blanket no across the board? & you're not willing to consider any transit-oriented new housing?

Having fought hundreds of buildings being displaced, the "anti-displacement" text Wiener added is worse than useless, both in SF and for tenants in apts throughout Bay near transit. p.s. Tenant orgs have been fighting for building new housing for years so quit that strawman.

what specifically about it is worse than useless and how can we add housing with the strongest anti-displacement language possible?

tenant orgs have been fighting for housing that costs more than $300,000 per unit in public taxpayer subsidy each, of which the voters have only approved $100M and $310M in two separate bonds since 1996. We should approve bigger local funding sources, of course!

Tenants orgs seem to care more about effort/virtue signaling (“fighting hard”) than impact (getting a lot of housing built)

Tenant orgs want Costa Hawkins repealed, public housing projects, and don’t want developers to build more market rate housing ... that is not virtue signaling
