Hey @CalOccupier do you think your kids should be entitled to live in your neighborhood regardless of what they earn? And if they can't afford it @kimmaicutler's solution is to upzone and build until they can afford it.

Hey do you think you’re entitled to control other people’s property and exclude others from public resources in your community while you capture property appreciation on a capped tax basis that insufficiently funds your city?

The community I moved to has zoning implemented over decades by planning professionals, residents & their elected representatives. These provide sufficient zoning capacity for housing growth. I don't expect my city to throw away these rules just so my kids can live nearby.

Marin homeowner wants to export his children to gentrify and displace people from lower income neighborhoods. OK.

My kids may have low incomes during their 20s & 30s, I don't want your pro-gentrification rapid luxury unit growth agenda to push up rents and make communities unlivable due to excessive traffic, taxes, placing new residents in the most unhealthy locations.

OK, million dollar homeowner in a largely white county that has a long, multi-decade history in exclusionary zoning policy. Nothing will change your mind so there is no point. Bye!pic.twitter.com/76kOZWFVTR

Median home price in El Cerrito is $882k, San Rafael $1m, SF $1.3m, not so different. Zoning has been driven by many factors, sometimes race (where we share outrage) but you dismiss many other valid factors to play the vilification card rather than understand other rationale.

Marin's current zoning is driven primarily by environmentalism. This fact is conveniently overlooked by YIMBYs. Better to accuse environmentalists of far worse...

Same for us in Berkeley, but if you bring up any realistic environmental concerns, you are accused of "loving Zucchinis over people" or some other idiocy.

In the reality and fact-based community, meeting California’s goals for greenhouse gas emission reductions will require the largest increase in transit-oriented housing development seen in the state since before WWII. http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-housing-climate-change-goals-20170306-story.html …

"Getting people out of their cars...will require the development of new, closely packed housing near jobs & commercial centers at a rate not seen in the US since at least before WW2" analysis by Buildzoom, a startup serving the building industry. So no bias there @kimmaicutler?

Haven't read CA climate action plan, but Marin's 2014 climate action plan shows Transit Oriented Development reducing emissions by just 0.1%. Tiny! Transit is dirtier than cars in suburbia; so TOD mode shift doesn't achieve anything. Focus on solar if you really care.pic.twitter.com/kvJObVRxx2

Marin is not representative of California as a whole, and the lack of transit to develop around is a self-inflicted wound. Other areas would greatly benefit from dense development near transit hubs.
