      Kim-Mai Cutler Retweeted Brad Parscale

I can’t believe this tweet isn’t going viral. Do people not really care that Facebook may have systematically charged the Clinton campaign an order of magnitude or two more than it was charging Trump to reach American voters? (Which is not allowed in other mediums by law.)https://twitter.com/parscale/status/967516077956755457 …

I bet we were 100x to 200x her. We had CPMs that were pennies in some cases. This is why @realDonaldTrump was a perfect candidate for FaceBook.

He’s saying their eCPMs were a fraction of what Clinton’s eCPMs were. For people steeped in online advertising, this makes sense but in the context of political advertising, you’re giving one candidate a significant advantage.

FWIW, gaming ad purchasing algorithms is bipartisan - Obama’s people bought TV ads in 08 at a fraction of the cost that McCain paid because they understood the market better. But this seems like a structural advantage based on demographics

I mean if Trump was getting cheaper clicks per minute bc the clicks were coming from folks who spend more time on Facebook that seems fair.

This is not how political advertising norms work in TV or radio.pic.twitter.com/VlftMBdxSp

This is different though as with eCPM, you’re essentially gambling in terms of the price you pay. So it doesn’t equate to this radio rule. Perhaps in future, political ads will be forced down R&F route with fixed, predictable pricing.

I don't think she's saying the laws governing political advertising prices in other mediums apply here. I think she's saying that SOMETHING similar to those regulations should exist for Facebook, etc, ads, something with a great deal of transparency. I could be wrong.

So, would it be possible to charge the same rates for all political ads during campaigns?

you'd have to get FB to charge a standard CPM regardless of performance, but how would you enforce outside spending? what I mean is, any schmo can hop on FB and push out propaganda

"For the same classes" - my understanding is that TV ad pricing is about whether the hypothetical viewer watches a lot of tv or not.
