      Kim-Mai Cutler Retweeted Brad Parscale

I can’t believe this tweet isn’t going viral. Do people not really care that Facebook may have systematically charged the Clinton campaign an order of magnitude or two more than it was charging Trump to reach American voters? (Which is not allowed in other mediums by law.)https://twitter.com/parscale/status/967516077956755457 …

I bet we were 100x to 200x her. We had CPMs that were pennies in some cases. This is why @realDonaldTrump was a perfect candidate for FaceBook.

Uh, no. Trump’s ads got shared so they reached more people. Clinton could have made her ads better. Also, targeting different demos costs vastly different $. Saying she got charged more is pretty misleading

There is evidence that her campaign simply did not put in the same level of effort into the FB platform. But also we don’t have access to the data to give us a clearer picture of how much it is on the campaign versus whether there is something more structurally unsavory like

the way the dynamics of FB’s platform may charge extremist, inflammatory messaging a fraction of the cost of more moderate, pragmatic messaging — which has troubling implications for the cohesiveness of democracies globally going forward.

FB works by giving you credit for actual engagement. If people engage, the prices drop over time for a given campaign. They aren’t deciding a priori what to discount, it happens as you run the campaign

So stuff that works — gets people to like or share it — is the name of the game. Just like a tv ad or a direct mail piece or an email. FB can track it unlike the others, but that’s what a political campaign *is*.

And presidential campaigns have *always* been a mix of hope and fear. Lee Atwater or James Carville would be right at home here. And I actually think that’s the way it should be. It’s a no holds barred contest and we want the *winner*, not the best person, to be president

Decades ago Marshall Macluen wrote "The Medium Is The Message", the book and the most repeated phrase . The word "clickbait" is right on. We get "winners" but not better people.

Yes, my point is that this has been true for all elections (or at least most) and certainly before FB came around

This is exactly it. I worked at Twitter for 3 years. Click bait and extremist 'gotcha' memes get shared and interacted with way more and drives pricing way down.

Sounds like a person trying to use big words to still make excuses for a failed candidate. Get over it.
