California has the highest level of poverty among the 50 states when the cost of living is factored in. What is being done to reduce that? https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2017/demo/p60-261.html …

On healthcare, many of the solutions involve unsustainable spending if they don't adjust for the supply-reducing factors that drive up healthcare costs compared to other industrialized countries. (Pharma price measures are an exception to this)https://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/15/how-much-do-doctors-in-other-countries-make/ …

Yeah, I agree. Doesn't mean that universal health care access shouldn't be a stated goal. I think it was clear to everyone involved in Sacramento that what was proposed last year wasn't serious. But maybe it could come back in future years in a more thought out form.

CA is not the far left fringe, it is the leading edge of the US. We're always years ahead of the rest of the nation.

CA politics often better understood through a populist, rather than a left-right lens. That’s how we have NIMBYs who also care so much about “reducing poverty”. It’s why we like to spend a lot, but somehow get others to pay the taxes.

Because even the California legislature has figured out that it can't be paid for, yet want to barrel ahead.
