While I would support 100M/yr for affordable housing, the proposal strikes me as indicative of how far we are in denial about the scope of the problem. At current costs, this would make ~140 units/year, at a time when we need tens of thousands.

Jane Kim may have made a mistake by choosing the wrong place for spending new tax money. Virtually every SF rent-controlled tenant is nervous they'll be evicted next. "Housing, housing, housing" (for existing tenants as well as homeless) is at the top of many voters concerns.

The promise of new housing does nothing for tenants who are worried they'll be evicted next. Only eviction protections will do that.

Is Randy right, "The tax can’t be raised twice." Ignoring the housing ballot measure that says if it gets more votes the other prop isn't implemented, can't the gross receipts tax be raised as many times as voters agree to raise it? Was this just sloppy writing or a true fact?
