"There are 2 groups of Asians in Silicon Valley, Asian-Americans & Asian-Asians. Asian-Americans are the most visible; they found companies, write blog posts, sit on panels & weigh in on debates around diversity. Asian-Asians are the dark matter of tech." https://www.facebook.com/xianhang/posts/10100291984325061?pnref=story …

Also important to note that 1st gen workers are the ones most likely to be on a visa status that leaves them probe to exploitation.

While American journalists fixate on the dumb, clickbaity raw water stories, this is one of the best stories I've read on tech & Silicon Valley culture in the last few years or so.http://www.addastories.org/welcome-to-the-bay-area/ …

I had high school classmates (now married with two kids) who had to keep their relationship secret for years because they were in different castes. Or friends whose parents looked down on Taiwanese-mainlander friendships, etc etc.
