Juuuust reminded myself that the max capacity of this fault would feel about 500 times stronger.https://twitter.com/quakesinca/status/948867882632564737 …

You can read about this scenario here! The USGS conveniently just modeled it earlier last year. https://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2017/5013/sir20175013ah.pdf …

Also, in my last emergency preparedness training class, they warned us a major Hayward fault rupture could sever water lines to parts of the Bay Area for weeks to months. Make sure you have at least a week’s worth of water stored!

There’s a 33 percent chance of this particular fault, which hasn’t had a major earthquake since 1868, having a 6.7+ event in the next few decades & 67 percent chance across all major Bay Area faults of having a 7.0+ earthquake in the next 30 years. https://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2017/5013/sir20175013ah.pdf …

Kim-Mai CutlerVerified account @kimmaicutlerNevermind. Max magnitude of the Hayward fault is thought to be 7.5, so amplitude would be 1,000 times bigger than last night & energy would be 31,663X. 33% chance of a major rupture in the next few decades. Last was 1868. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/how_much_bigger.php … https://twitter.com/kimmaicutler/status/948869844446846976 …2 replies 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
Look up your NERT or CERT training classes from your local fire department. They're free! Learn light search & rescue, how to triage victims, how to work with your neighbors in the event of a disaster. http://sf-fire.org/neighborhood-emergency-response-team-nert …

Last night’s quake was the largest one on the Hayward Fault since 1981. As you can see, we’ve been abnormally quiet for the last century. Accumulated slip deficits of more than a meter are largest south of Oakland w/ a patch around Fremont. http://temblor.net/earthquake-insights/largest-hayward-fault-earthquake-since-1981-raises-questions-about-what-could-happen-next-5999/ …pic.twitter.com/OtrH4bJEfP
