Why would centralism matter? Germany isn't centralized and you'll never catch a German say what he just said.

Germany is less fragmented than we are (from a local governance perspective). At least their metros get allocated more funding with population growth.

I still remember the exact moment I gave up on SF. I read an SF Chron (?) piece on muni extension plans from ATT park to Mission Bay. Turn out the plan had been approved IN. THE. EARLY. 90s. but fighting kept it stalled until recently. That was my breaking point. Lifes too short
