Just cut and paste my plan to quickly explain the diff between "build more whatever" and "have *actual* plan for who you're building for"
Oh wait I just explained it
Costs $714K per door these days in SF. If you don't have the subsidies, you can't do it even if you tried.
You can demand 100% affordable housing but if you can't pass a sufficient revenue raising measure across 2/3s of the electorate, nothing
Will get built and existing stock will get bid up even more over asking, and the requisite rents to cover the mortgage payments increases
Anyone serious about land speculation and other political economy mechanisms would realize need to look beyond current structure for answers
They would realize that obsession with abolishing concepts of zoning, local control replaces redlining with bluelining, screws working class
They would realize while taxation for working class housing Is Good, also need to address structure by whom/where/why housing is CREATED
Of course but you need a mvmt that is statewide that convinces 2/3s of voters that it is in their interest to reconsider housing as an asset
developers can't subsidize all affordable housing needs. They don't even build enough to match natural pop increase of who is already here.
I support selling every newly built unit in SF for $720k, or half current sale price. $6k in profit for a door is fresh.
