Upzoning doesn't necessitate demolition. There are still MANY surface parking lots and 1 story commercial lots in the city.

The idea that yimbys advocate for eviction or the destruction of existing housing is strange - we certainly do not

I've had two different yimby friends explain in an edifying tone why I and my neighbors deserve to be evicted for insufficient density.

I am sorry to hear that but that in no way reflects our platform or policy goals. I imagine it was a heated exchange.

The time where we need to destroy housing to make more is still at least a decade away

Campaign for density on vacant lots all you want. Just don't evict people and don't vilify pro-tenant or affordable housing advocates.

There are, as you note, a whole lot of vacant lots. There's little need for conflict if the whole goal is to let more apartments be built.

Unfortunately, the reality is way face very staunch political opposition to doing exactly that, from pretty much every corner.

Might help to not treat SF's pro-tenant and affordable housing establishment as opponents. Do other cities' yimby groups do that?

Other cities' tenant and affordable housing groups don't block new development. They focus more on things like tenants rights.
