in what way is ridership number suspect? I've ridden Caltrain daily for 8 years. Almost never have a seat past few yrs.

I support public transit where it works. It is the taxpayer that does not ride it that pays the burden.

In Japan and HK they're profitable, but they earn land value appreciation, rents on top of fares, tickets.
