This year I learned: Our country isn't prepared to have a single source of public interest data truth. When I'm curious about latest Covid stats, or changes in air quality, I end up triangulating a position from 3-4 different sources.

I will say Department of Labor data is amazing. Also if you call them they’ll pick up and walk you through the details of anything you want!

I would also note that science is often messy and nuanced which makes for hard public policy messaging. It’s almost never “if you do x, y will happen”. It’s “if you do x your lifetime probability if y occurring increases by z%”

Tbh what he's doing is the best way to engage any stats: take time to explore how they're produced, what they do and don't capture, and what accounts for any discrepancies with other sources. People throw around stats on here like they're Truth because they're math-y.
