What's interesting is that the scales are totally different, which indicates that the recent surge in usage of acute beds is not mostly driven by COVID patients. My wild guess would be the backup of elective/non-essential surgery, but that's a total guess.

Would assume that this is because hospitals have resumed elective surgeries at full-steam. If COVID cases continue to increase, seems likely that procedures will get deferred again.
