Really should be a public good. It’s a generally a low margin business and even if the parent is paying like college tuition-prices, the worker is still getting barely above minimum wage bc caregiver-child ratios are so tight at early ages...

Serious question, why does it have to affect women? I see so many dads quite involved in active parenting. Let the men take the career hit and see how quickly extended parental leave and childcare legislation happens. It's the gendered version of white people protesting.

While I might agree in principle, one practical reason that doesn’t happen is that due to the gender wage gap, the male partner generally makes more money and when choosing who stays home and who keeps working, it’s an economic no brainer.
