Been thinking about this - An old friend who is a NYC lifer (in his 50s) who lived in NYC during 9/11 remarked to me he feels it will take the city overall much longer to recover from the pandemic. The way he said this stops you in your tracks.

For just 1918, Spinney’s Pale Rider or Barry’s Great Influenza are good. If you want more like a 1,000-year history of multiple epidemics, then Snowden.

+1. Humans are better off in cities. Reading Glaeser’s triumph of the city. Will all the remote workers fleeing NYC still choose cities, over the reported suburban flight? Are tier 2/3 cities net beneficiaries? If NYC loses, who gains?
