Starting to hear about VC firms and specific larger startups in the Bay Area who’ve nearly/unofficially directed staff that offices will be closed until at least January, or at least April. Feels like these will become more official announcements next month.

Yeah, there’s no way we can do this safely until there’s a vaccine — especially with our base numbers so out of control right now. 1 out of every 90-100 people is wandering around with COVID right now.

Bob WachterVerified account @Bob_Wachter7/ That number@UCSF, which hovered at ~0.3% since we started testing asymptomatic people in March, is now 0.9% (Fig, bottom line). And SF is fairly Covid-cool compared w/ rest of CA, so I’d assume somewhat higher fraction elsewhere in CA, & higher still in more surge-y states. pic.twitter.com/WgyjyfQypRShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes

I am estimating that the number of new infections right now (275,000 per day) is exceeding the level we've seen in March/April.
That means that 1 in every 90 Americans (1.1%) is currently infected (including asymptomatic individuals).
This may still be an underestimate. pic.twitter.com/7mkgDir7KW
