Yeah "mass produced" isn't quite right, buildings are not like cars, and won't be cookie cutter here. This is more about using components and a supply chain to make construction more repeatable and predictable, so we can ultimately make more affordable, great places to live.

Economist had an article a few years ago analyzing why the efficiency of the construction industry in the US has not improved since the 70s. It said construction companies do not prefer automation, as it is easier to reduce costs during downturns by laying off workers.

Permitting uncertainties probably prevents them from lining up different construction projects one after another to avoid keeping expensive machinery-heavy construction systems unused, as well.
