The nature of social audio makes it very difficult to enable basic moderation tools. Take reporting for example. How can User A report a bad experience with User B? Audio is fluid & interruptive. Will Clubhouse retain records of any reported session? /6

I think I read about this problem once in school. Maybe they can virtually pass around a talking a piece like a conch... “The conch represents civil discourse on the island, and only works as long as the boys all believe in its power and the necessity of the idea it symbolizes.”

This reminds me of Deborah Tannen’s work on conversation styles across genders and cultures. Which lends itself to some ideas: You could eg have the size of an icon grow as a person talks more, or have icons bump up against each other if they’re interrupting.

Tannen recorded men and women in conversation and proved that, while men perceive that women are overweighted in conversation, this is a perceptual illusion and the opposite is true. If you make people aware of who’s dominating the conversation, it can change behaviour.
