Canada's identity is as a nation of immigrants, and although the US is also a nation of immigrants, I think the US expects assimilation in a way that Canadians do not.

I was in Toronto in 2018. I'd never been to Canada before. I was astounded at how they live their identity: everyone I met was VERY Canadian while retaining their identity from their original country and culture. Egyptians, Inonesians, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, you name it.
It was honestly amazing. I was envious.
