OK folks Many of us have loved ones who, for whatever reason, deny systemic racism exists. One friend of mine insists most racist inequities are broad economic inequities impacting all. What resources do you use to explain historically racist laws/specifics of system racism?

He listens to a lot of Sam Harris. We had a 3+ hour discussion about this podcast: https://youtu.be/vmgxtcbc4iU I argued it rested on a faulty premise, argued BLM positions inaccurately, and the rebuttal itself was baked with wrong-headed answers. What's your take?

TLDR? I will listen to it, I'm just pre-emptively curious!

It reads or speaks for itself. Many people I know who were Sam Harris fans could not take him seriously after this episode.

This was two years ago. He had two years to do some basic research and Ezra challenged him to bring a Black guest on for the first time in the history of his show and the one person he brought in the two years since then already agreed with him.

Harris seemed, in the podcast I listened to, obsessed with being "silenced"

He’s not silenced. This is the Southern Strategy of Internet discourse. It’s a way of appealing to racial grievance while offering plausible deniability because it’s framed within the context of free speech.

If anyone is not silenced, Harris is not silenced. Agreed. It was so strange to hear someone with such a massive following frame things in terms of being "silenced"

It is as if Michael Tracey, Andrew Sullivan, and Sam Harris are cut from the same cloth.
