I didn’t realize that being a near billionaire, internationally famous author was equivalent to being a vulnerable member of society. She said something on her very large platform of 14 million people and then people responded. What exactly seems wrong about that to you?

Re: Stephen He still has a job for life as a tenured faculty member. He’s free to spend 10 years of his career publicly speculating about IQ differences by race. But can you see how hundreds of colleagues may as a result think someone else should be in charge of promotions/hiring

I haven’t really read about the other examples you gave but I can look into them. In a normal environment, people should be able to give each other feedback, learn and move on. However, if it’s like 10 years of behavior that people are responding to, IDK what to do about that.

No one is preventing either of these people from saying anything. They are free to say whatever they want. Other people are also exercising their speech rights if they want to boycott her books or whatever.

What if lots of people are doing both at the same time? What if we can’t mentally process the volume and scale of voices speaking simultaneously as a result of technology and what if our biases and empathies distort the way we perceive the situation
