I’m less concerned about some statues being torn down, than whether we can ever agree on which new ones should be built. Monuments aren’t really history, they are choosing our historical gods. We should be more concerned about what it really says when we cannot pick new ones.

I am not referring to the statues of the confederacy. I wouldn’t support a statue of Franco or Mussolini. They need to go I’m talking about statues in general. A nation needs a social fabric, a shared history and and respect for an ideal. Symbols, like statues, play that role.
