San Francisco is *grossly* over-policed.
SF = 2300 officers
San Jose = 959 officers
SF = 883,000 people
San Jose = 1.03 million people

And how much money does he take from the associations and individual officers? Any politician who says they have too few police after decades of build-up, and historically low crime rates is not a good source on this issue. They need housing, not more cops.

I was in San Jose city govt in 2016 as the independent police auditor. The entire govt has very thin staffing. Because of mandatory overtime, officers were staying in RVs.https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2016/08/25/cops-living-in-rvs-outside-san-jose-police-department/ …

is part of that also that officers couldn't afford to live in San Jose anymore?

One of the best reads on how San Jose got into this situation: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2011/11/michael-lewis-201111 …pic.twitter.com/grOYNSyPeP

One of my favorite gems in this piece was when the SJ police union suggested that the libraries be closed entirely to pay for police - and even then SJ's budget didn't work https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2011/11/michael-lewis-201111 …pic.twitter.com/iVsBW2rlr7
