What do we think of how protests intersect coronavirus? Are protests going to cause a spike in cases? https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/06/protests-carry-risk-even-when-theyre-justified/612652/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share …

If there is no spike two weeks from now, does it mean we were being too conservative in SIP?

I think the US response to coronavirus was never aggressive enough, as evidenced by the ~1,000 deaths we still have every day. Taking strong action and suppressing the spread of the virus inevitably requires trying some things we’ll later find out were unnecessary.

if there's no spike, then stronger mask rules + outdoor social events = path to reopen faster

Outdoor protests where almost everyone has a mask don't seem likely to cause huge spikes. If most people don't have masks, different story.

nearly all protesters were in masks. And all outside. If no spike in cases that’s a safe bet that any activity -outside- (as long as in mask if close to others) is fine It doesn’t mean that bars / churches / schools / gyms are fine without concrete restrictions or limits
