They're super effective at giving cops a reason to arrest, detain, harass, & selectively enforce things on anyone they see. Plus, they make it harder for others to report any bad things they do, which makes it much much safer for cops to do whatever they hell they want to people.

As others have said, it’s so the cops can arrest anyone they want without needing a specific reason (e.g. observed destruction of property).

It’s to hand over more power to the police and remove oversight further — while couching it in terms that make moderates happy like “safety”. Time and location limiting protest is in the playbook of curtailing civil liberties.

no they’re being used punitively. take for example the Seattle curfew, it was announced mere minutes before it went into effect. also the fact that transit has been shut down alongside curfews effectively stranding protesters with nowhere to go
