I think a lot of people burning things in the middle of a dual pandemic and depression think it’s all going to spring back up suddenly after it’s done. But insurance may not pay for it, many of these venues may not ever get rebuilt, many of these cities will see people leave.

Consider three values: x = the economic losses due to the pandemic/lockdown y = the economic losses from property damage during riots the last few days z = the eventual payouts from city budgets to settle civil suits due to police violence over the last few days

Do you think y is even close to 1% of x? Do you think y>z? You honestly sound like a very sad scared lonely grandmother with early stage dementia who has watched thousands of hours of Fox News.

> y = the economic losses from property damage during riots the last few days Stewart, it’s not just the cost of a few days of destruction (as bad as that is). It’s a generational reduction in wealth for black communities. NBER, not Fox. https://www.nber.org/papers/w10493 pic.twitter.com/LSh5ueS8Kx

this ignores a) how black communities have been displaced from inner cities for decades and b) that these protests are far more racially diverse than the ones of 50 years ago.https://twitter.com/TomSugrue/status/1267175127483105281 …

Ok, you seem very confident that riots are for some greater good. So are you going to pay the bills of the black businesses that are being burned to the ground? Or prop up the wealth of every minority community if it declines post riot? https://mobile.twitter.com/disrnnews/status/1266373982804115456 …https://twitter.com/DisrnNews/status/1266373982804115456 …

that is a pretty far leap to a conclusion. I did donate to small business repair funds yesterday actually. Do you think I have the power to stop these riots or something?

What are *you* doing to understand the pain causing these riots? What are *you* doing to relieve or address the pain that is causing these riots?

Is that really causing the riots though? There are groups protesting peacefully, and there are different groups rioting and looting. The people who want rioting seem to be less motivated by racial injustice, and just acting now to take advantage of distracted policing.
