It’s not an organized group or political party that I know of. Do you know an official national Antifa organization?

I’m not going to claim to be an expert. That’s why I called it a “group”. “Movement” would be another term.

But my point is: you can both be anti fascist as a person, and still have significant concerns about Antifa as a (let’s say movement); and criticizing Antifa is not necessarily any indication that someone is insuffuciently anti-fascist.

My problem is it’s vague and is could result in some McCarthy-esque quest to jail people that seem vaguely antifa. It’s a pretext to take people’s rights away.

Sure. And I obviously don’t believe the BS that Soros funds them, etc. Furthermore being a movement not a party I’m sure there’s a spectrum of actions and beliefs; so any criticism wouldn’t be 100% true.

But what I struggle with is: we know there’s an ideology underlying at least some of the combative white kids that black leaders have criticized for inflaming the situation further.

If this ISN’T antifa, what is a better term? I’ve been calling it “black bloc” to distinguish but I don’t know if that’s any more accurate.

It feels like destructive angsty white kids in black bloc is much more accurate than anti-fascist. Doesn’t seem like those kids do a service at all to the term.

fair but I definitely think THEY think they’re part of the antifa movement.

and more importantly: if the movement isn’t somehow either denouncing or disciplining bad behavior, then in terms of perception, they own that behavior (in the exact same way that all police are perceived as owning the behavior of George Floyd’s killers).

I literally don’t think there’s anyone there to denounce. There’s no there there. It’s kids dressed in black breaking stuff.

across the country, in protest about protest, we see the exact same pattern. there’s SOMETHING there.

obviously it pales in comparison to the police overreaction to the protests (in terms of why this weekend has been so ugly) and nobody could know how many of those actors are actually right wing false flag impersonators.
