I remember reading his statement saying the wealth he was giving away was his ownership in Square because his position in Twitter is much smaller. I always get the sense he's being pulled a lot of directions by too many people when it comes to Twitter.

I imagine it's a similar thought process to what Bezos had when he was blackmailed, essentially: If I, a billionaire, can't do what I want or stand up to what I want, who can? Not to mention if he gave away 2/3rds of his wealth he'd still have more than he could ever spend.
