Curious to hear from all the parents of school-aged children here after 2+ months of this. Any new tools or practices you've found that have been total lifesavers?

Schedule. Schedule schedule schedule. Also not every day will be a good day, and screen time isn’t murder. Yesterday I was slammed w/work, it was the first day there were no Zooms, so the kids binge-watched Magic School Bus and made themselves waffles in the toaster for lunch.

We are keeping up homeschooling in summer because totally unstructured time just isn’t working. A schedule of hourly “subjects” & workbooks (keeps the day moving). Also signed up for some
@Outschool classes in karate & chess (things he likes that work on Zoom) and Spanish.1 reply 0 retweets 14 likes -

Oh! These things called “diamond art” (an Amazon suggestion). It’s like paint by number but with little rhinestones. the finished thing becomes a sticker. The 6y old zones out doing them and it buys an hour of screen-free quiet. I’m ordering more.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PFB9SC9/?tag=btd0a-20 …

On that thread we've found Perler beads to be a fantastic way to eat hours. They have some great kits that make large designs based on various pop culture characters, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PF7MBCC/ref=twister_B07MZ68HDY?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 … But you can also find patterns for almost anything on Pinterest.

If you have a label maker, it’s also a great way to start them typing.pic.twitter.com/8FVR5bWbq5
