based on discussions, there is absolutely zero consistency in how tech companies are onboarding new hires in our New Remote World (like down to how identity gets verified), because there is zero guidance from our intentionally hobbled government, once again.

Usually, when you start you have to bring physical proof of work authorization or the company can be liable for hiring people that aren't legally allowed to work in the US, including an official ID with a picture of you.

I had to fly clear across the country once to do just that, before starting a remote position.
