That thread is more transparent and responsible regarding the nature of evolving knowledge in an ongoing crisis than any elected official has been about any of their myriad mistakes

They give press conferences every day and have to summarize/synthesize the findings and status of organizations with thousands of people.

True but there are concrete decisions we know now were mistakes and good leaders should own up to them. Newsom’s mask deal might be one. Cuomo and nursing homes more glaring.

Probably the best example is the CDC and wearing masks!

But they did revise. You would’ve wanted what? A groveling apology in television? They’re muzzled right now by the WH.

That’s fair. The CDC is in a tough spot because of the WH. But I do think that the way it played out only further eroded trust.

I think we are in a trust spiral and found Trevor’s thread refreshing for his willingness to say he was wrong. Too many people in power today fear admitting that even if it’s abundantly clear. And we should have the capacity to forgive (some) given unprecedented circumstances.

I wish social media made it easier or somehow found a way to take away the stigma of updating your priors.

yup, the pandemic has exposed how an online culture that incentivized Strong Takes left us unprepared for navigating a rapidly evolving crisis with layers of unknowns. Taking time for careful consideration leaves a void quickly filled by noise (or worse).
