I'm not sure of the benefits to parents given the lack of daycare/schooling is unlikely to stop soon. I suspect work from home might make it more difficult for them to feel at ease at work (pure conjecture - just based on articles about parents' experiences in lockdown).

There was a bunch of articles in May pointing out that WFH and productivity saw two trends: downwards for parents and jobs with high human contacts (usually women); upwards for engineers able to work relatively independently.

There are lots of indications we will be - lots of countries who reopen schools immediately had waves of new cases (France had a 100 in the first week), and daycare already operated with very tiny margins, and are unlikely to be able to reopen without stronger public support.

Families who would otherwise rely on au pairs are likely to not be able to in the coming year(s) both for immigration reasons and because young people might be less likely to travel or have other care obligations at home.

Another thing that makes me doubt this is going to be beneficial for groups marginalised in tech is that it seems the employment rate of disabled people has fallen even more than abled peers - whereas they should be more likely to wfh already and more prepared to it

The layoffs also mean it's "the right time to higher strong candidates" (heard that socially distantiating at the park on sunday), so employers might feel they don't have to hire minority workers since they no longer have a workforce size issue.

we've heard the opposite. The enemy of D&I is the pressure to hire fast and now that you don't have to hire as fast you can take more time to source, cultivate diverse candidates. cc @ammonbartram
