Let's have some data behind the conversation on re-opening instead of going with our feelings.https://twitter.com/zack/status/1256264468838772736 …

Let's look at California. Our infection rate at 0.98 is just under R1. Each new infected person is on average only infecting less than one other person. https://covidactnow.org/us/ca pic.twitter.com/5p3JSgmAaS

Our test rates are improving. The lower the % of positives we have, it means we have more visibility into how widespread this thing is: https://covidactnow.org/us/ca pic.twitter.com/mJ3GdCN0wO

Unfortunately, we don't have a ton of spare ICU capacity if there is a surge. https://covidactnow.org/us/ca pic.twitter.com/V62StGxVey

Taken together, we face some moderate risks in re-opening. We have plateau-ing cases, better visibility with testing but not much spare hospital capacity if we face a NY-like surge. We're relaxing some restrictions next week, and I support taking this gradually.pic.twitter.com/12XiiA4NvK

Let's also be sure the data is accurate. The state says we have ~1,200 COVID patients in the ICU, which is quite a bit lower than this figure of 2,037, and would paint a very different picture of space capacity.https://twitter.com/GavinNewsom/status/1255949158751571968?s=20 …
Dan O'Neill added,
Gavin NewsomVerified account @GavinNewsomNEW: CA has 48,917 confirmed cases of#COVID19: +5.2% from yesterday. 3,497 of those are in hospitals: +0.1%. 1,192 of those are in the ICU: +0.5%. Your actions impact others. CA’s flattening the curve but we MUST continue to take this seriously.#StayHomeSaveLives2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes
