City’s still moving too slowly on this even after an outbreak yesterday. Now all of the service providers that specifically focus on family homelessness have banded together to get families off the street and into hotel rooms during this pandemic. https://twitter.com/compasssf/status/1249093031879274497?s=21 …https://twitter.com/compasssf/status/1249093031879274497 …

Great point, but it is part of an overall failure to prioritize effective policies above policies that "look good" to the public.
-
Why don’t you flip that around and ask why the product, policy and comms teams haven’t done an effective job at deciding and then communicating to the public why their pricing structure is the correct one in light of a pandemic?

There's an easy explanation that doesn't involve taking a cheap shot at
@Jason. The caps on delivery fees are an unforced error done for BS populist reasons that could be easily avoided. The homeless shelter outbreak is more of an inevitable outcome of years of mismanagement. -
Jason can take shots. ;-) I think we’re cool with each other.

This is also not as unprecedented as VCs seem to believe. Many jurisdictions have placed laws against price gouging during this epidemic and during disasters like hurricanes in the past, cities are forgoing mortgages and rents, and had caps on utilities even before this.
-
What is the impact of these laws on decisions to redirect production to what is needed?

True. This isn't a "free market" right now. Thriving businesses have shut down or reduced services for the greater good, and it's imperative that we do what we can to prevent more barriers to recovery. We can all get back to competing for marketshare when we stop dying.

As a restaurant bar owner I can confirm this is what is happening now. We are running at a loss to serve our community
