The main reason is that a national primary would shift the advantage even more to well known and well funded candidates. Sequential primary is probably more permeable to non-mainstream less well-funded candidates.

The major change that everyone agrees needs to take place is moving New Hampshire and Iowa from leadoff hitters. Thats a change that would have hastened the selection of Joe Biden as the presumptive nominee.

If you've won a statewide election as a Democrat you should automatically qualify for the debates. Debates should happen every week with random 4-6 candidates. The party should build its own voting system, so it's not at the mercy of hostile or incompetent state governments.
