Read a Zoo tiger got infected with CoronaVirus. If this virus is moving among species, should we be very concerned about this this potentially passing to dogs and cats? I often see people walking 6ft apart, but NOT their dogs (from other dogs).

I am literally astonished how poorly WHO and CDC have performed. If I didn’t have a deeply ingrained respect for scientists, I would be furious as hell at them.

someone described this pandemic to me as a costly "wake up call" to western democracies to stop bickering over silly pet projects (like paper straws) and that the silver lining here is the warning to build out fever clinic infra

What do plastic straws have to do with this? That’s a local level decision, not a federal one.

I actually appreciate the local paper straw ordinance. I’m guessing
@semil is using this example as a proxy for federal governement priorities, planning, and resource allocation.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

They have nothing to do w each other. In fact, the city govt that banned plastic straws is probably also the one that has proactively acted to save among the most lives compared to other US metros. Plastic straw straw man.

Nothing against local ordinances, esp ones that locals also align with. But regardless of the criminal negligence at federal levels, all levels of gov’t were caught relatively unprepared for a major pandemic. Maybe we expected federal gov’t to handle PPE/masks/ventilators?

Yes that’s what a national stockpile is for. California also has a stockpile.

Estimates are we could need up to 750k ventilators.

If we need that many ventilators we’ve already failed in so many ways we wouldn’t be able to have that many. Lockdowns + test and trace is the path here
