It’s raining in San Francisco today. 100+ homeless have been brought inside with symptoms for COVID tests in the past week. 5k remain on the street. Libraries, cafes, resource centers are closed. 30k hotel rooms sit vacant. The mayor refuses to use her authority to open them.

City negotiates leases. It is doing this. Has been offered 11k rms by industry but she is only renting 3500 for those who test positive or 60+. She could do thousands more to prevent viral spread. $30-$80/night. Mayor can also commandeer hotels immediately, pay “fair price” late

Hotel workers are out of a job and without healthcare and could be rehired. Entire shelters could be moved into hotels along with staff support. One shelter has done this already.
