This person is apparently a Mother Jones senior reporter who lives in Oakland. For what it’s worth, i’m an actual SF progressive and I would NEVER wish for a recession nor have I ever heard that wished for or hoped for among any of my colleagues.

Yeah, this was 100% a weird SF leftist talking point. Because somehow the poor would somehow make out best in SF during a recession.

Ok. Well, I’ve never said it nor heard it from SF progressives I work with or other progressive electeds. The poor obviously fare the worst during recessions, as we are seeing now.

I can’t speak for anyone else but that’s how I feel and what I believe. Truly.

Matt, I think you're being disingenuous if you don't see that hoping for a recession to drive out the techies has been a progressive point of view, at least sub rosa if not overtly, since the last recession.

I’m an elected SF progressive. This is not my point of view. Nor have I heard any other SF progressive elected cheer for a recession, especially not the ones I work closest with. That’s my honest experience and belief.

This whole thread is dumb.
@YIMBYNeoliberal is dumb for even posting this to begin with. It’s callous frankly. But even Peskin was quoted in the Times hoping for a slowdown. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/09/technology/in-san-francisco-and-rooting-for-a-tech-slowdown.html …pic.twitter.com/sPJvrbPO0X

Anyway, I’m glad to see everyone working together and working fast! Can people send things for delivery to folks working at EOC, as a token of gratitude?

Ideally, we come out of this sitch understanding we legit have to come together. Tech, and all big business frankly, will commit to becoming an integral part of investing in their communities and stitching into our much-needed safety net. Leading with empathy on all sides is key.

SF budget is bigger then some states, entirely from taxes payed by employers. CA also has very generous safety net, again from big employers.
