The biggest COVID mystery to me is why South Asia and Southeast Asia are reporting so few cases. Is it lack of testing (certainly a factor) or validation of the heat theory (virus will burn off when the world warms)? One spells looming disaster, the other cause for optimism.

Sadly probably true

Indian airports have been screening but important to keep in mind an overwhelming number of Americans who visit India tend to be Californians. Unclear what the directionality of spread is.

Australia would be the obvious place to look for the heat theory right?

Can you cite data to show Covid 19 cases related to travel from India.

Actually a lot of the confirmed cases have come from travelling Italian or other tourists in traveller friendly destination such as Rajasthan, Ladakh etc. The govt has gone a decent job of raising awareness + airport screenings.

Unlikely. Still no case without a clear travel history. So all imported cases. Also, they have placed 30,000 arms length people under monitored self quarantine. India was ready.

no country in the world is 'prepared' or 'ready' for a pandemic outbreak

https://www.mohfw.gov.in lots of screening happening at airports plus travel bans from infected countries. That might have contributed too

I heard from family a plane arrived in Amritsar from Italy and they just turned it around and refused entry.

Most reported cases in India, are Italian tourists. Many are fleeing Italy due to quarantine.
