When the hole out of which SF must pay for its schools (currently facing layoffs) and its larger expected $400M+ deficit this year grows deeper, don’t forget who endorsed it.pic.twitter.com/nj55IlHNiv

So disappointed in your position on E @MattHaneySF. When my daughter’s public school is forced to cut services and increase class size, will you have a solution for our budget shortfall?

Sorry we have a difference of opinion on this one. I think on balance it’s a good thing and looks like SF voters agreed. But so I understand, what does Prop E have to do with public school funding?

It doesn’t actually increase affordable housing funding, and incentivizes offices to go to the suburbs where they’ll take their business tax revenue and worsen regional traffic.

From the quoted article at the top of the thread: "Prop. E would hurt the city’s economy, according to the city’s chief economist, who forecast personal income dropping 5.9% by 2040 and the city’s job base shrinking 7.9%, equal to 91,000 fewer jobs, if the measure passes."

I assume that translates to less tax revenue coming into the city budget, hurting schools, among other things.

SF schools are funded overwhelmingly by the state, with some support from parcel taxes and sales taxes, not the city general fund.

If the economy doesn’t do well, there won’t be large ERAF surpluses like in previous years to save city college classes or prevent layoffs at SFUSD.https://missionlocal.org/2019/02/san-francisco-board-of-supervisors-advances-consensus-plan-to-spend-185-million-in-windfall-funds/ …

Mind blown how one man, John Elberling, has so much sway on city politics. The result is a shortfall for affordable housing this bill was supposed to help. large office projects pay affordable housing fees, would cut funding by between $600 m & $900 m by 2040. Good bye jobs

It’s more than just that. There was a proposal for $90 million in ERAF funds go to SFUSD earlier this week. The amount was whittled down through a backroom deal put together by Stevon Cook, Faauuga Moliga, & a supervisor who used to be a school board member (not Matt).

You’d be sickened to see the things that some our current school board members who are running for higher office are doing right now. SF is a city run by cartels, and as an SFUSD parent it is despicable for me to watch the neglect of the safety of our children by this defunding.
