He has a robust downballot, one that I often disagree and have issues with. But it’s clear he’s building a much broader movement than just him and that it and the people in it will endure long after he’s gone.

I think your point is really prescient. Obama’s strategy neutered the DNC and since then we have been in a tussle over whether we let it die or if saving it is the goal (see Pete here).
