I think he does some things well. I appreciate his urgency on things that would otherwise seem quotidian — trash cans, bike lanes, etc. But he’s trying run for mayor and his recent stuff about graft considering how he’s protected the existing opaque system is, well....

The fact that this is the bar with which we judge public servants at the local level is pretty damning imo.

I'm actually optimistic about Haney, he seems like he'd do good things if not burdened by the dead weight of his political colleagues, and locked in to positions such as deferring to Supervisorial Discretion

That's convenient. I generally prefer to judge politicians by the things they do rather than what I think they'd do under better circumstances.

I don't understand the Haney hate, personally! In his first year in office, he: - held the 1st hearing on sweeps in city history - fought NIMBYs HARD for a Nav Center along with Breed - has been the loudest supe for Vision Zero - called for Richards' resignation

I weep for our future if this is what a good council member looks like.

I legitimately believe that Haney is doing good in absolutely terms, but is absolutely terrific when compared to the awful politics of SF He's the best of the bunch, by a significant margin

If you care about housing, he spiked the discretionary appeal reform, and is running a bunch of performative/marginal stuff around office space by appropriating the jobs-housing balance language from the YIMBY movement. He’s status quo.

He talks a better game but he votes the same.

Which isn't nothing, I'll take a guy who at least outlines a good vision but doesn't do enough to achieve it (presumably because of pressure from their political machine), rather than someone actively proposing a lousy vision
