is there any good writing on how san francisco is simultaneously perceived as “radically leftist” and a technocrat libertarian heaven?

Interestingly, tech has done very poorly at influencing SF elections. 9 of 11 current Supervisors are not friendly to tech. The tech-friendly mayor barely won. And tech has a pretty bad record on ballot propositions recently too, with another on the way to limit new office space.

But it’s also possible for the politics to be radically leftist while the reality is a technocratic libertarian haven as a result of market forces (and the actions of well-capitalized individuals) that are in conflict with SF’s political values. So maybe the city is both things.

Also it’s hard to fund “radically leftist” ideas and programs without the capital to do so....
