Generalizations are troublesome. Some people did as much as they could before PG&E's fires. Jim Knaver, a teacher who lost his disabled wife in the Camp Fire, spent seven years fireproofing his yard. He cleared brush and spent thousands of his own dollars trimming his pine trees.

He was one house. If everyone does the right stuff but you have a couple of houses that don’t manage their vegetation, they jeopardize the entire neighborhood.

And I don’t mean this just in a preventing wildfire sense, I also mean this in the case where wildfire is unavoidable but some houses’ poor veg mgmt practices block evacuation routes when tree canopies catch....
