Granted PG&E is mismanaged, but a major part of it is the way Californians live. The modern fuel load from reduced or delayed fall precipitation, Diablo winds plus the growth in woodland-urban interface areas isn’t compatible w overground lines.

For older Mill Valley homeowners, this is the choice between spending a few grand to $10K to fire harden your home vs. the increasing chances every year of having it burn down, being hundreds of thousands of dollars underinsured plus having your retirement savings destroyed.

Not to mention destroying your neighbors’ homes or worse, killing them, because poorly managed vegetation falls over and blocks evacuation routes out.
