    There was a good piece in an alt-weekly 10 years or so ago saying that there are 3 constituencies in San Francisco — immigrants (can’t vote), young transients (don’t vote), and long-time residents (mix of hyper activists and the wealthy). Not great for effective governance.

        Actually, young tenants do vote which is why SF passes the nation's strongest tenant protections. SF's % of non-voting immigrants is very small. @conorsen

        Aside from the very limited scenario of an SF school board election, no immigrant is entitled to vote so not sure what 'SF's % of non-voting immigrants' could mean in the context of local government.

        Isn't it weird that the idea of America was built around "no taxation without representation" ... yet immigrants are taxed but not allowed to vote.
