Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez added,
We definitely shouldn’t allow discretionary review for affordable housing, but I’d you read the article the data simply doesn’t support your claim. You’re unfortunately thousands of units off the mark.
As in there's not enough of it entering the pipeline to begin with?
Yep! We need over 15,000 more affordable units to enter the pipeline by 2026 to meet our affordable housing goals. And that’s just to account for the new low-wage jobs we’re adding. It doesn’t incorporate the existing shortage.
If your thought is “okay well maybe there’s still a lot left to add because we have 7 more years”, that was my first thought too. If you look at the numbers about housing in the pipeline towards the end of the article though you’ll notice affordable housing is waaaaay behind.
Ah, sure. I wonder how we could get the costs down & the rate of construction up
The huge gap when it comes to affordable housing is the money. Getting costs down is critical, but we also have to get real and *reprioritize* the need for raising *millions* at local, state, and federal levels.
“millions” lol
lol in my normal person brain “millions” is a rough substitute for a Very Large Number
Billions are a kind of millions!
