So with all the discussion about the CPUC letter to @PGE4Me today, I have to ask, what significance do we assign to the fact that VP of Wildfire Safety stated in a briefing that @PGE4Me found 50+ instances of conductors damaged in the wind (my translation: fire siege averted)...

This. Is bad analysis. How many conductors are damaged everyday in the normal course of business across their service area. The answer is not zero and over a week is probably >50

A spark on a Diablo winds day with dry gusts at 45-60 mph, humidity below 20% isn’t the same thing as a spark on other days. A spark on a normal weather day can relatively easily be contained by a fire dept. A spark on a Diablo Winds day is almost impossible to contain.

Only 4/20 largest wildfires were caused by electrical transmission. https://www.fire.ca.gov/media/5510/top20_acres.pdf … Power never shut off before. But it HAS to be shutoff now? What changed? Nothing except backlog of PG&E incompetence. 100 years of diablo winds its not like they are a new factor here

Fuel load is different these days. 150 million dead trees in California.
